Ceramic sculpture is the perfect medium to explore the infinite beauty of Black hair and features through shape, structure, and texture. With a natural material-stoneware clay-my work recreates and exaggerates the organic forms of Black hairstyles across the diaspora. My central sources of inspiration in my work have been, of course, Black hair stylists. They emerge as true sculptors, showcasing a mastery in manipulating kinks, coils, curls, and waves into regal and intricate works of art. As I progress more in my art practice, my sculptures experiment with the limits of what our hair can do.
